I read this book almost breathlessly. The writer has a lucid style that
is engaging and often funny. If you have some prior idea about the
basics of Hindustani classical music and have a liking for it, you'll
enjoy this book. It traces the history of the various gharanas, various
eminent musicians, their daily lives, singing and even eating habits.
The book is littered with witty anecdotes and stand alone incidents that
readers would find endearing.
